Garth likes to take care of those around him especially his team-mates in a brotherly way. As such he can be prone to teasing the majority of them, yet remains fiercely loyal to any of his team-mates. He can be stubborn once he has got his mind set on something, it usually takes someone just as determined or stubborn to stop him. Furthermore on his bad days, he can prove impulsive, reckless and more than a little short-tempered which leads to him to being the first to speak or act and the last to think. He can also be a bit aggressive on rare occasions, wanting to go for a more direct approach. And if he doesn't agree with something then he will make his feelings known.
A standard white human male standing in at a height of 5' 6" and weighing 165 lbs, Garth has blue eyes and red-blonde hair that ends halfway down the back of his neck. He also has an athletic build due to a childhood spent on the farm-planet of Winath.
The top section of his Legionnaire costume is dark blue with white gloves and two diagonal lightning bolts slant down from each shoulder toward the center of his chest. The trousers and cloth-like boots are white and have a belt-like edging consisting of a pair of small diagonal lightning bolts.
Garth Ranzz was born the third of three children on the planet Winath. When he was ten years old, Garth, his twin sister Ayla and their older brother Mekt attended a party on an alien planet. Returning home, their shuttlecraft malfunctioned and they crashed on the planet Korbal. They discovered that their ship had run out of power and that its engines needed to be recharged. Garth lured a herd of Lightning Beasts towards the craft hoping to use their electrical discharges to repower the ship. The animals' energy bursts struck the teens however and not the ship, imbuing all three of them with the ability to generate electricity. Garth, Ayla and Mekt used their powers to recharge the ship's engines and return home.
Roughly four years later, Mekt mysteriously disappeared into the underworld of the galaxy and seeing the effect that had on his parents, Garth set out to try to find him. He boarded a shuttle en-route to the planet Earth where upon he met Rokk Krinn of Braal and Imra Ardeen of Titan. Also on the shuttle was R.J. Brande, a wealthy industrialist who claimed to be the third richest man in the galaxy. Garth and Rokk immediately bonded with one another, but Imra felt that the two of them were little more than childish boys.
When the shuttle reached Earth, an assassin attempted to murder Brande, but Garth, Rokk and Imra used their respective powers to save the older man's life. Brande was so impressed with the teens' bravery, that he petitioned the United Planets to form a Legion of Super-Heroes – an ever-growing cosmic team inspired by the exploits of 20th century super-hero Superman. Garth Ranzz became a charter member of the team using the name Lightning Lad.
POWERS, SKILLS & WEAKNESSES
Powers: Garth can absorb electrical energy into his body and re-channel it for offensive purposes, his body functions as a natural insulator. He can also generate and control fields of electrical energy and channel this energy through his hands and project it as a super-heated discharge with properties similar to that of lightning. Unlike true lightning, Garth can manipulate these electric discharges in non-terrestrial environments such as outer space. Although the speed and voltage of his electric discharges has never been measured, it can be assumed that their effects are similar to that of a bolt of lightning.
Combat: Already a top athlete, Garth is picking up hand-to-hand combat as a means of self-defense fast, something that his powers and athletic skills help with.
Leadership: Even though he's one of the Legion's founders, Garth is more of a field-commander than a diplomatic leader. As such he fares very well in frontline combat situations and missions.
Weaknesses: Garth tends to overload and 'short-circuit' himself if he takes in enormous amounts of external lightning and can become unconscious if he doesn't release it immediately. If he comes into contact with water when using his powers, the result can be that he can suffer from a serious electric shock. And when in a rage, Garth tends to lash out and mostly at the nearest pieces of furniture.
Taken from another RP I'm in.
Sticking his head out into the corridor to make sure that the coast was clear before he moved on, Lightning Lad frowned as he noticed an exotic female alien with golden skin, long flowing red hair, green eyes and a violet-colored outfit and a man dressed up in a bat-like costume heading straight down the corridor towards the room he was in. Great company, just what he needed.
Stepping back into the Zeta Tube room and glancing around like he was looking for the best place to avoid anyone sneaking up on him, Garth tensed in case he needed to defend himself from the pair of incoming strangers then he spun around as an unfamiliar voice suddenly spoke up from behind him, asking him who he was and what he was doing in here.
The other young man who had walked out of one of the tunnels had light blonde hair cut very short, pale green eyes, high cheek-bones, and a lean build. Black, eel-like tattoos ran across his back and along his arms and he seemed to have webbed hands and feet and what looked like a set of gills in his neck. His appearance was finished off by a skin-tight, full-body, red-and-blue swimsuit.
Activating his flight ring, Lightning Lad quickly rose until he was hovering a good few feet above the others as his scar lit up, electricity crackling around his body as his cybernetic arm suddenly shifted forms, becoming an cannon and he aimed the weapon at Aqualad yet didn't seem in a hurry to fire it until he got some answers. Namely what was going on, where his missing friend was if he was here that is and if Brin was alright if he was here.
"I could ask you the same thing buddy, just who are you?" the red-haired young man shot back at Kaldur, his eyes narrowing even as he added quickly to see if his hunch was correct "And where's Brin? You better not have hurt him..."
