An observant young man, Val can be a focused person who throws himself at problems until they've been solved and does not accept that there is no solution to any problem. His dedication to the martial arts at the exclusion of anything else can make him seem aloof to his team or would-be friends. It doesn't help that he keeps his emotions on a tight rein, seeming to always be calm even in battle or situations where emotions would be appropriate.
He is a quiet and straight-laced teenager, not prone to speaking unless there's something that needs to be said. However he is incredibly aware of himself and of those around him and notices things other people don't. It is rare he's unaware of a teammate's emotional duress no matter how well the teammate tries to hide it.
While Val is known to take what looks like extreme action, he refuses to kill as he doesn't want to be like his biological father, attempting to treat every sentinent being with the same respect and will frequently put his own life at risk to save others. He has an strict moral code which he isn't willing to compromise for any reason.
Val would look like a standard Japanese young man if not for the fact that he has inherited both his mother's brown hair even though he keeps it cut fairly short so it doesn't become a hindrance when he's in any kind of combat and her height. His Legionnaire costume of choice consists of dark brown trousers that run into white boots ending between his ankles and knees, and a white top with sleeves that end roughly at his elbows. The top has yellow edging at the bottom and at the ends of both sleeves while a high, stiff collar, also yellow in coloring stretches up to end halfway up the back of his head. He finishes the outfit off with two black leather wrist-guards.
Residing in the 31st century in the Japanese sector of Terra, Val is the son of Japan's greatest crimelord, Kirau Nezumi also known as Black Dragon and American secret agent Valentina Armorr. Protecting an American politician touring Tokyo, Valentina met and fell in love with a Japanese man who called himself Takao Masato, and they were eventually married. However on the day that she found out that she was pregnant was the day Valentina found evidence that her husband was really Kirau Nezumi.
Fleeing to the quieter parts of Tokyo, she found sanctuary at the house of Japan's biggest hero Sensei Yamato Toshiaki or the White Crane for the duration of her pregnancy as he took pity on her. After she gave birth, both Valentina and Toshiaki decided to hide the baby from his father as they feared if Kirau found out about the child, he would come to take his son and heir with the the intention of raising him to be the Black Dragon's eventual successor.
However a few days later, a local shopkeeper betrayed Valentina and Nezumi came to oversee his son's retrieval personally. Breaking into White Crane's home, he oversaw his wife's murder for what he saw as a betrayal. However the noise had caused White Crane to wake up and the sensei ended up killing Black Dragon for the deed. Adopting the infant and naming the baby Val Armorr in honor of his mother, Toshiaki raised the boy as if he were his own son and trained him in all manners of martial arts as well as peaceful creative practices such as meditation, sculpting and painting.
By the time he turned thirteen, Val was a master of all martial art forms, many having their origins on different worlds and became the youngest warrior ever to earn the title of samurai. He left his sensei to travel the world in search of new forms of fighting to master and along the way, the boy developed his own style known as Super-Karate. However on hearing that White Crane was dying two years later, Val hurried back to Japan in time to witness his sensei's final moments and found out that the man that he saw as his adopted father had left him everything...
POWERS, SKILLS & WEAKNESSES
Powers: Classified as a Class 15 fighter (Batman was Class 12), Val is a master of nearly every martial arts technique in the 31st century and this makes him an expert in hand-to-hand combat. Val's martial arts ability includes proficiency with assorted melee weapons such as swords and knives, though he dislikes using them and almost never uses such items for combat. He also possesses the ability to sense the weakest spot in an object and his skill in hand-to-hand combat is seemingly superhuman, allowing him to simulate super-strength blows, severely damaging extremely hard and strong materials like metals, stone and so on with a single blow. Val's training includes discipline which makes him more resistant to mind control, as well as giving him a limited control of his body's functions (such as being able to control vomiting or being nauseated).
Weapon Master/Swordsmanship: Val's training included Japanese swords as well as small melee weapons like maces and hatchets.
Dual Linguist: Thanks to his parents' cultures, Val has been taught to speak both American and Japanese.
Acupressure: Val is educated in the pressure-points of the Terran race and can deliver highly accurate strikes to temporarily disable an opponent or even knock them unconscious.
Artist: He is an amateur artist due to White Crane's lessons and has been further teaching himself how to improve his drawing and sketching techniques.
Weaknesses: Val doesn't know when to quit or lay down and die especially if he thinks his cause is righteous. He's likely to make a situation that much worse if someone is trying to get him to back off, he'll get back up and throw himself at it again. He's confident in his abilities and is utterly assured himself he is the best physical combatant on any field he finds himself on and can take on any physical challenge even when it's too much for him, he'll go down fighting, but he'll go down nonetheless.
"HAI!" the teenager yelled into the night, punching the air with one fist then the other. It may have been nearly midnight but Val found himself unable to sleep and had decided to focus on a bit of personal training.
As he knew this garden inside and out, the young man vaulted over a bench as he launched himself up and over, both legs shooting out in quick and hard sideways kicks. Repositioning his limbs so he safely rolled onto the ground, the young man brought one leg up into a savage kick, his foot meeting thin air. He switched fast, the other leg moving up to kick at nothing. Withdrawing his leg, Val broke into a second roll to stop in the middle of the path and backflipped onto his feet again.
Feeling that he had done enough for now, the boy wandered through the garden area and stepped back onto the porch area. Kicking his shoes off, he slipped back inside his house and headed for the kitchen, his workout having left him hungry. Rummaging through the cupboards, Val dug up some peanut mochi and nibbled on one as he prepared a traditional cup of green tea.
A flicker of light from outside as he glanced through the kitchen window to see the main part of the city in the distance as an incoming space-ship came into land at one of the local stardromes. Word of the new team of teenage superheroes had reached this country a couple of weeks ago and it was tempting. He was also curious about his mother's culture but at the same time, based on the requirements they had set for membership, Val doubted that the founders would allow him to join the team.
